Techie Tuesday: Evites & Websites

I have a friend who was seeking help in creating an evite over this past weekend.

This caused me to think about a few great tools that are out there which many of the non-technology-geek-types might not be aware of.

So, here's a little roundup of my favorites:

Allows you to create a cute virtual invitation from a template. Offers cool tools for people to RSVP and comment, as well as organizing the potluck brigade (you can ask for what ya need and how many ya need of it - 3 desserts, 2 packages of plates, 2 beverages, etc). It sends reminders for you to your guests.

Allows you to create "tickets" for an event. Allows for people to PURCHASE tickets through the site. EventBrite takes their cut off the top, and you get the rest. My favorite way to utilize this site is for FREE events such as church activities and blood drives. Because FREE events with FREE tickets are FREE through EventBrite. If you have an iPhone you can even scan tickets as they arrive (fancy!).

Alright, maybe I shouldn't tell you about this one because it's something I help with via my products & services, but if you're paying attention here's a freebie. Wufoo is this awesome amazing site for generating online forms. So if you need a contact form for your website, a form for the guys at the office to fill out for a monthly performance review, a form for the family members to use to sign up for the Christmas name drawing, pretty much anything you can imagine. If you have a paid account it gets a billion times more awesome, but it's awesome as a free tool as well. Yeah, this one makes me geek out. You might need my help anyway if you're not so tech-savvy.

There are times when you just want to know where the best place to get breakfast is when you're on vacation. Not just any breakfast, the BEST breakfast in any given city. Well, Yelp is there to help you figure that out. Of course, this one is probably best if you have a smartphone and the app, but it works anywhere you have access to a computer so just hit up the hotel lobby. You can search for pretty much anything and see actual relevant reviews and tips.

Basically a gigantic music library at your internet-streaming disposal. If you own your own biz, go ahead. If you work in an office where you share an internet-connection, be considerate at work. ;) Pick songs, create playlists, enjoy lots and lots of music at your fingertips.

My personal favorite way of listening to music. You can create "stations" - pick a song you like and Pandora plays something similar and guesses at what you like to offer you more songs. As you give "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" ratings, it gets smarter (sometimes creepy smarter). Sure, there are lots of other options for streaming music online now, but I still love it.

Y'all didn't really think I'd write up a post about websites and leave off PINTEREST did you? Okay, Pinterest is this amazing conglomeration of the prettiest and most creative and most inspiring stuff on the web in any given day. It's like sitting with an endless magazine and an endless supply of bulletin boards and clipping everything you like or want to make or want to remember and saving it for later. So you know, you can actually search for it and DO it. Instead of remembering that you know you saw this recipe for lemon raspberry meringue cups, if you could only remember what issue of Woman's Day it was in... Yeah. Go forth and pin. Follow me if you want, too. I keep telling my hubby it's "productive daydreaming."

Just love this little tool. Save For Later. Put articles, videos or pretty much anything into Pocket. Save directly from your browser or from apps like Twitter, Flipboard, Pulse and Zite.

Okay, that's enough outta me - what are your favorite spots to visit on the web? What tools help you get the job done, whether it be planning the office potluck or taking signups for the bake sale? Please leave comments below would like to hear about the little things that can make your life so much easier.
Have a great day.
